Hi my name is Melissa. I am a wife and mom of 2 girls. Prior to starting Crossfit, I was a runner. Several 5k’s, a few 10k’s and 2 half marathons. I started running because I wanted to lose some baby weight after my second baby. Lost some but wasn’t really getting the body composition results I was looking for. Crossfit Lavon opened up less than a minute from my house and i’ll be honest, I was intimidated to try it. I drove by it almost every day for a year looking in wanting to try but too scared to. One of the lady’s that I ran with started going and convinced me to try it with her. I had never lifted weights or done any type of barbell movements prior to starting. After my first class I was hooked! I loved the atmosphere, coaches were very attentive and helpful, everyone was so nice and welcoming. Going from not lifting weights to deadlifting over my body weight was such an amazing feeling. With lifting weights and the workouts, my body composition started to change. I started losing fat and putting on muscle. I was finally getting the results I was looking for. I wanted to help people get that same feeling and results I had so I decided to take the Crossfit L1 course so i could begin coaching. Helping and watching people achieve their goals is so rewarding for me. I love it when I can teach someone a new movement or push them past what they thought they could do. Its exciting and I love every minute of it!

Me in my early 20s: lover of all foods, hater of all things fitness…until I found running and then step class. Then when I reached “level” 40, I went on to get licensed in Zumba, yes Zumba and Bokwa! All things cardio—all the things to keep me moving but yet nothing really that made an actual “mark”. Weights in the gym with me and my headphones were even super boring AND intimidating so pretty much stayed away from those.
Then two years ago I stepped into my first CrossFit box and right away I was hooked, not only to the physical aspect because of the visible changes that were happening to my body but the nutritional aspect as well, changing the way I felt inside and out! I mean being able to come home and tell the hubby “Hey! I could seriously deadlift you and then some!” is greatness!
These two things combined have made that “mark”. I feel better, look better, and have the want to be better in all areas of my life! And it’s because of this that when I was asked if I wanted to be a CrossFit L1 Trainer I jumped on the opportunity! Watching others grow and change in this community has been amazing and I get to be a part of it!
That’s all folks!

Growing up I was a very athletic kid. I played just about every sport through high school and even a few years after never once having to worry about my body. Then reality hit! You cannot go from being super athletic to stagnant and fueling your body with junk and expect it not to catch up with you. I tried fad diets, workout programs, running, regular gyms. Workouts became a chore and was not something I enjoyed or even looked forward to doing. Fast forward to 2016. Life was hectic and challenging and I really needed an outlet. From the first day at CrossFit Lavon I was hooked. CrossFit challenges my mind and body like no other workout has before. I am setting goals that I never dreamed would be possible even at my fittest. The best part is not even the mental and physical changes I have made, it’s becoming a part of a community that is constantly encouraging and pushing each other to be best versions of themselves!

I finally gave CrossFit a try in 2016 when running became stale to me. I was running an average of 40-50 miles a week but it was becoming boring to me and I needed a change. I won’t lie and say it didn’t intimidate me, as I didn’t lift weights and couldn’t do a lot of the things I saw others doing. The very first day I walked in, the coaches and members made me feel at ease and welcomed me with open arms. I learned quickly that I love how there is always something to learn and improve on. I fell in love with the community and how CrossFit has shown me just how strong my body and mind can be.

I’ve always been into fitness and working out. In 2016, I decided to try this thing called CrossFit and I’ve been here since then! I love the challenge that it constantly brings to every member, no matter their abilities.
I have always been physically active. I played sports in high school and continued to play softball after graduating, even while pregnant with all three of my children. I’ve been a part of group workouts in the past, and even led some group workouts specifically for women.
CrossFit has really helped me discover that just because I celebrate a birthday each year and turn another year older, that I can still be stronger, faster and better than I was before!

I have always been a treadmill runner. Even when my results plateaued, I would run on a treadmill because it made me feel like I was doing something. Free weights scared me to death, that was the “guy” section of the gym and forbidden territory for a girl like me.
I was introduced to CrossFit in 2011 (while I was pregnant with our fourth child) when Cole came home and started doing burpees in our garage. I distinctly remember telling him, I’m never doing that, while I ran on our treadmill. After our daughter was born, I remember telling him again, I’m not doing that as I was still running on our treadmill, but then I started seeing results. He was getting thinner, he was getting more muscular and he felt better. So the treadmill and I broke up and I started doing CrossFit. Within the first 3 month I put on four pounds of muscle and lost fat and that was it for me. CrossFit works for me because I got results, I feel stronger, I feel thinner, and I feel healthier.

I’ve never been a very athletic person. Although I played youth basketball or outdoor sports as a kid, I was always on the heavier side and struggled with finding a fitness program that would keep my interest for longer than a few months.
I started CrossFit in 2011, when my weight had reached over 270 lbs, I wasn’t happy. In the beginning I started doing CrossFit workouts in my home gym by myself but after several months at home, I wanted to do more than the limitations of my home gym, so I took the next step and joined a local box. I couldn’t believe the world of difference it made, I lost more weight, I got stronger, I started competing in local events, and fell in love with the community as well as the competitive side of CrossFit. I’ve visited dozens of CrossFit boxes around the U.S. working on various programs and certifications. My passion for CrossFit comes from the results I’ve personally had as well as the results I’ve seen in others.
